Indus Academy of Magical Arts
Indus Academy of Magical Arts is a Indian wizarding school teaching the magical arts, located on the banks of the Ganges river, hidden to the muggle eye by a variety of methods such as spells, natural geography and distractions. The school, which is rather like a small town by itself when including the dormitories and open grounds, is situated right next to the fresh water river. The precise location of the school can never be uncovered because it has been rendered Unplottable.
The school is located in an ancient castle, built for keeping wizards safe in case of war, but was later converted into a school for magic. The river beside the school is used as a source of water and as a sports area.
Established around the Mauryan Era, Indus is considered to be one of the finest magical institutions in the wizarding world, of that time and of now, though other notable schools such as Hogwarts have also come up. People with magical abilities are sent a letter from the schools’ board, much like the Hogwarts letter system. The school's motto is “ ज्ञानं परमं ध्येयम् “ and is in Sanskrit, which translates to “Knowledge is the ultimate goal”.
Unlike Hogwarts, Indus does not have a Quidditch pitch. In fact, they play more water sports than land ones. Boat races, swim festivals are a common sight, though they do have a Quidditch team representing them. The school is a very student initiated area, and so every student has a responsibility. The farms of food, the water supply and the safety of the caste all lie in he hands of the students. This is to ensure the that students know how to face the real world.
The school is most alive during the festivals that take place here. During Diwali, the festival of lights and Hli, the festivals of colours, the school is decorated like a palace. Students paint murals all over the school, while juniors participate in Rangoli (design) competitions. During these times, fashion competitions, cooking competitions and all sorts of events take place. They are friendly competitions between the four houses, Prithvi, Dhruva, Agni and Vayu. These houses are named after the Hindu deities who the founder of the schools worshipped.
