Hello, I'm going to give you a little bit of help with the Forum App.
It's taken me a little while to get my head around it myself, but I think i'm finally getting the hang of it now so I'm writing this with the aim of helping you get to grips with it.
i have an android phone so apologies if it is different for apple phones.
Feel free to ask questions if you're stuck with anything.
How To Download The App
The app used is 'Tapatalk'
either search for this in your app store
OR
go to the forum on your phones browers and it will ask you to download the app
OR
ANDROID LINK | APPLE LINK
you don't need to make a 'tapatalk' account to use the forums, although it's handy for notifications (explained later).
open the app, skip the log in (bottom left) or log in/make an account if you wish, click 'done' on the suggested forums and then tap the search button in the middle at the bottom.
Then simply search for 'The Hogwarts Journey' and tap on the forum.
Once the forum page is loaded, click the menu bar in the top right, click sign-in and use your forum log in to sign into the forums and that's you logged in.
How The App Works
To Look Through The Threads
to do this, simply tap the drop down on the top left and select the section of the forum you're looking for. The little orange N circle denotes something new in that section.
To Bookmark A Thread
simply tap the star at the top of a thread in the app to bookmark it. this means, if you have notifications set, you will receive notifications about this thread and they will show up in your bookmarked threads section on the app (more later).
it is possible to bookmark threads on your PC/Laptop by selection the 'checkbox' next to the thread name and selecting 'Bookmark' on the 'Action' drop down box at the top of the list of threads.
Notifications
the dropdown menu at the top right of the main forum page brings up options to search the forum, read your messages and look at the members of the forum.
if you select 'Settings' you can set the app up how you want it looks-wise but also set up notifications.
To set notifications on make sure the slider at the top is 'ON' and that whatever notifications you want to receive are checked.
if you want to see notifications in a list on the app, you have to sign up for a tapatalk account (fairly easy, just your email address etc) and then you can view these on the home page (the house icon) on the main tapatalk app. this is useful in cases were you have more than one notificaton from the forum, as pressing the notification just takes you to the latest one.
The Icons on The Main Forum Page
The Lighting Bolt is the trending icon and so far has had nothing in it.
Presumably that will eventually show topics that are most used.
The Clock is 'Time Line' from what I can tell this shows all posts that have been posted on the forum, showing the latest post at the top.
The middle icon is 'Unread' posts. I find this one the most useful.
You can see which threads have new posts that you haven't read.
What I find most useful, is to go through the list and read the new posts I'm interested in, leaving the ones i'm not alone. Once I've read them all, I then tap the menu bar at the top right of the screen and click 'Mark Read'. This marks all of the posts read, so when you click the refresh icon, it gets rid of everything (unless someone else has posted something new).
Obviously only mark read if you've read everything and are not interested in anything other threads, otherwise you will lose threads that you might want to read in the future.
The Star icon shows the latest posts in the threads that you have bookmarked.
The @ icon shows new posts in threads that you've participated in (ie, ones you've posted in). A little like the 'Participated' button at the top of the web version of the forums.
Quoting Posts
To quote someone, tap the post you want to quote and then click on the icon that looks like two speech bubbles at the top of the screen. This will bring up the area to type, with the quote in already for you.
(picture shows the screen once the post to quote has been tapped)
-----------------
I think this should be pretty much everything you need to know about the app to get around and use it for posting and reading threads if you're not at the PC. its worth thinking about what notifications you really want, because if you are receiving notifications on a popular thread your phone can be using a lot of battery and bleeping every few minutes.
If there is anything else you think I should add to this post, please let me know.
I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
